Email Acquisition: Use Contests and Sweepstakes Wisely

While incentives can certainly boost email sign-ups, there are other ways websites can generate interest and action from visitors.

Beyond instant coupons and offers for exclusive deals and info, websites can also offer visitors the chance to be entered in contests to win cash or prizes.

For instance, intimates apparel retailer Freshpair served up a navigation bar banner that prompted visitors to enter their email addresses in order to be entered in a contest to win a $250 shopping spree on the website.

The messaging was prominent and clear, specifying that one winner would be chosen each week. Spelling out those favorable odds in a prominent way made signing up for the company's email list hard to resist for visitors who might not have done so otherwise.
