Are you keeping up with your peers? Internet Retailer recommends asking these five questions when evaluating vendors

For many years, Internet Retailer has issued an annual list of top vendors. The personalization space is a crowded one, with 30 vendors that approach personalization in several ways, from product recommendations to targeted content and so on. So while the list doesn't compare features, we're proud to say we're always among the top 1 or 2, which is a great way to start 2018 for our hard working team and our fantastic customer community.

We invite you to join the celebration and share a very special shout out to one of your retail peers, Office Depot’s Matthew Vermilyer. Matthew’s team has generated $6.9 million in revenue by using Monetate machine learning capabilities. Best of all, he generously shared their success tips in the 2018 Guide to E-commerce Technology.

As you know, Office Depot isn’t alone. Retailers are going all in on e-commerce. According to Internet Retailer, 78% of online retailers plan to increase spending on e-commerce technology in 2018. Almost all, 95%, will be expanding their spend by more than 5% over 2017, many by more than 15%. While e-commerce platforms dominate spend priorities, mobile commerce and personalization are high priorities within that framework.

Are you keeping up with your peers?

Internet Retailer recommends asking these five questions when evaluating vendors:

  1. Will the software help us meet our specific goals?
  2. What metrics are tracked within the software and how are they presented?
  3. What measures are taken to ensure data privacy?
  4. How do you personalize content for first-time visitors?
  5. How will this software be able to grow with our company?

This is a excellent list of questions, but we encourage you to go one step further. Software alone won’t equate to success. The number one challenge holding brands back is having enough experienced staff. That’s why choosing the right technology partner makes the difference between frustration and growth. We encourage you to get to know service delivery teams and probe on their ability to apply technology to your environment.
