At Monetate, we routinely produce infographics in an effort to provide our clients and readers with an easy way to understand important—but sometimes complex—topics in retail ecommerce.
As we approached the end of the year, we scoured the Web for what we believe are the best, most informative online retail infographics of 2011, and then detailed why we like each of them.

Why we like it: As smartphone usage becomes more and more ubiquitous, an increasingly greater percentage of your site traffic will consume email on their mobile devices. You’ve heard the phrase, “People don’t like to read or scroll.” Well, that’s even more the case with mobile devices. Check out this great infographic on what’s working and what’s not.
Why we like it: Online marketing doesn’t take place in a vacuum. The responsibility for optimizing landing pages most likely spans more than one individual at your company, perhaps even multiple departments. Enjoy this infographic on a holistic strategy for landing page optimization.
Why we like it: Understanding the types of activities that consumers like to do online is essential to reaching them with the right message at the right time. Get the download on how your key audience segments are using the Web.
Why we like it: The mobile market is huge, but it may be even bigger than you think. Two-thirds of the planet now uses a mobile phone, and in developing countries, many people’s first experience of the internet is through mobile devices, not a desktop, laptop, or tablet. Even if you’re already taking mobile marketing seriously, here’s yet another reason to do so.
Why we like it: In a sentence—every possible idea for how you can use Facebook to reach consumers.
Why we like it: Bounce rate affects so many of your PPC key performance indicators—from quality score, to cost per click, to cost per acquisition. This infographic provides a simple breakdown of the factors that influence bounce rate and the ways to reduce it.
Why we like it: Aside from the fact that it’s ours, this infographic illustrates the growing usage of mobile and tablet devices in ecommerce. If your site isn’t finger friendly, you’re likely suffering the consequences at the bottom of the funnel. In other words, it’s not just “right person, right message, right time,” but also “right device.”
Why we like it: Ecommerce is huge (and growing), but it’s a very different beast compared to the brick-and-mortar experience. Despite better and better ways to merchandise, there’s no substitute for being able to see and touch products in person. So an essential component to a successful ecommerce strategy is providing strong customer support. And not just because of returns, but for asking questions before the purchase is made.
Why we like it: A breakdown of the reasons why people buy online. Reason #1: to save time. If you’re not doing everything possible to make the shopping experience fast, easy, and efficient, you’re probably leaving conversions on the table.
Why we like it: The number one preferred method for interacting with customer service centers is via phone conversation. So why do so many companies deemphasize phone support? Your guess is as good as ours.
